Sheet of Paper Activity

I heard about this one at State one year.  I believe it was the problem 2 Problem Captain who told us about this.

Give a sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 notebook paper to each team.  Explain their goal is to stand so all of their team members are fully supported by the piece of paper.  No part of them may touch the ground or any other object that does not fully rest on the piece of paper.

Seven students cannot simply stand on that sheet of paper successfully.  They must use the piece of paper and each other to succeed at the task.  They can climb on each others' shoulders, support each other on tiptoes, etc.  And they will likely have to tear the piece of paper in the process.  The point of this is to show how many different things they can do that are NOT against the rules in order to be successful.  The first student who thinks of tearing the paper has made a major leap in thought!
